Mercado is the Spanish word for market. MLP’s El Mercado occupies the premises of a former market located only a couple of blocks away from Cusco’s main Plaza de Armas square. It is the only hotel in the city to have a market as its main theme.

A market is an expression of a town’s culture and traditions, a space where these may be appreciated, fostered and protected. Visiting a market is an eective way of obtaining a deep and lasting impression of a city, a place where its pulse may be felt. Markets offer fresh and home-made products: fruit and vegetables, juices, meats, wool, owers, hats, etc. Nothing is articial or synthetic. This is of deep concern and interest to travelers. Everything is a wholesome gift provided by the Pachamama, or Mother Earth. These products feature prominently at the hotel, in its decoration and on the menu.

Just as the countryside’s best products are brought to a market, the hotel brings the magic of the Apus to the city. There, in the countryside, lies the source of these magical products. This is El Mercado’s magic.
